Warner Bros. Creating Aegon the Conqueror Film Based on Game of Thrones

House Targaryen isn’t satisfied with merely ruling our small screens; it’s setting its sights on the big screen too.

As reported by Page Six Hollywood, Warner Bros. is in the midst of creating a Game of Thrones prequel film. Beau Willimon, recognized for his contributions to Andor and House of Cards, has been brought on as the screenwriter and has allegedly handed in a draft of the script.

Though the specifics of the storyline are under wraps, the film is expected to concentrate on King Aegon I Targaryen and his invasion of Westeros, which transpired nearly 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. Aegon was accompanied by his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys during this campaign.

HBO has been in talks about a TV series centered on Aegon the Conqueror since 2023, with the potential for a companion feature film that could lead into the series. It remains unclear whether Willimon’s film will act as a connection to a new series or exist independently.

The film’s future could be in jeopardy due to Warner Bros.’ possible sale to Paramount Skydance, which might result in the project’s cancellation. Nevertheless, Game of Thrones is crucial to Warner Bros. and HBO, which could aid its advancement despite the tough media landscape.
