Demi Moore gave a touching and emotional acceptance speech at the **Golden Globes** this past Sunday, conveying her profound appreciation for finally feeling acknowledged by the industry after many years committed to her art.
The iconic actress took the spotlight to receive the award for **Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy** for her prominent role in the body horror feature *The Substance*. This category was highly competitive, with Moore emerging victorious against an impressive list of nominees, which included Amy Adams (*Nightbitch*), Cynthia Erivo (*Wicked*), Karla Sofía Gascón (*Emilia Pérez*), Mikey Madison (*Anora*), and Zendaya (*Challengers*).
“I’m just in disbelief at this moment,” Moore expressed during her address. “I’ve been in this profession for a considerable time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve actually won anything for acting.”
Although Moore’s assertion isn’t completely correct—she had previously taken home the Saturn Award for Best Actress in 1991 for *Ghost* and gained accolades from the Indiana Film Journalists Association for *The Substance* last year—this Golden Globe signifies her first significant solo achievement in her remarkable career. She was also part of the ensemble in *Margin Call*, which won at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards.
Reflecting on her path, Moore recounted a touching anecdote from earlier in her career. “Three decades ago, a producer labeled me as a ‘popcorn actress.’ At that point, I took that to mean I could be in films that were successful and profitable, but I wouldn’t receive acknowledgment [from the industry]. And I accepted that,” she shared, her voice filled with emotion. “That notion eroded my spirit over time, to where a few years back, I wondered if maybe this was the end. Perhaps I had accomplished all I was meant to achieve.”
Moore disclosed that she was experiencing a “low point” when the script for *The Substance* found its way to her. “The universe indicated, ‘You’re not finished,'” she mentioned. This role became a pivotal moment for her, rekindling her enthusiasm and sense of direction.
In her acceptance speech, Moore also relayed a significant piece of advice she received during a time of self-doubt. “In those times when we feel we’re not intelligent enough, attractive enough, slender enough, or successful enough—or just not enough in general—I had a woman tell me, ‘Just know, you will never be enough. But you can realize the value of your worth if you simply set down the measuring stick.'”
Moore’s victory is a testament to resilience and self-acknowledgment, and her address struck a chord with the audience.
