We Experienced a Journey in Xpeng AeroHT’s Flying Vehicle at CES

**CES 2025: Xpeng’s Land Aircraft Carrier and eVTOL Take Center Stage**

CES has consistently embraced the concept of flying vehicles, and this year is no different. During the 2025 tech expo, Xpeng Aero HT revealed its Land Aircraft Carrier, an advanced six-wheeled electric vehicle that accommodates a modular eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft. The notion of an electric vehicle that can fluidly shift from roadways to airspace is truly groundbreaking — and fundamentally CES.

### A Detailed Examination of Xpeng’s “Mothership”

Let’s clarify a prevalent misconception: Xpeng’s Land Aircraft Carrier, affectionately dubbed the “Mothership,” is not a flying car in its own right. This minivan-esque electric vehicle, which channels strong Cybertruck aesthetics, remains firmly on the ground. Its true innovation lies in its capability to transport and recharge a two-seater eVTOL that can actually ascend into the air.

Following a discussion with Xpeng’s co-founder and CEO Wang Tan, it’s evident that the company is entirely devoted to its ambition of granting drivers the “freedom to fly.” Although the Mothership did not permit a complete interior tour as it remains a prototype close to finalization, the eVTOL was accessible for an interactive experience.

### Inside the eVTOL

Perched in the cockpit of the two-person aircraft, we caught a glimpse of Xpeng’s objective: to simplify flying as much as possible. The controls are refreshingly user-friendly — featuring a one-handed joystick for navigation, automated flight systems for brief self-guided journeys, and backup buttons conveniently positioned on the center console.

However, before you imagine yourself soaring over cityscapes, Xpeng envisions a more down-to-earth application. The eVTOL is tailored for leisure, well away from the hustle and bustle of dense urban environments. Moreover, let’s be honest, many drivers are still perfecting two-dimensional navigation, much less managing three. Additionally, a Light Sport Aircraft license is necessary for takeoff.

### The Specifications and Vision

The Mothership and eVTOL duo boasts a total range exceeding 1,000 kilometers (around 620 miles). Furthermore, the Mothership serves not only as a transport vehicle but also as a mobile charging station for the eVTOL. Collectively, they symbolize Xpeng’s “phase 1” in its ambitious quest for personal aerial travel.

What’s on the horizon? Phase 2 centers around creating a vehicle capable of flight on its own — without the need for a detachable aircraft.

### The Journey (and Flight) Ahead

Xpeng has already secured more than 3,000 intent orders for the Land Aircraft Carrier, with intentions to commence shipping in China by 2026. Nonetheless, the path to the future does not come inexpensively. The anticipated cost for this pioneering technology? A striking $300,000.

As CES 2025 continues to unveil the forefront of consumer technology, Xpeng’s Land Aircraft Carrier and eVTOL emerge as a daring step toward realizing personal air travel.
