After countless assassination attempts, a Freaky Friday–esque body switch, and insufficient Lady Gaga, Wednesday Season 2 has concluded in a suitably chilling manner.
The Addams family overcame the Night family, which comprised the resurrected zombie Isaac (Owen Painter), his sister, and Hyde Françoise (Frances O’Connor), along with Hyde Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) also triumphed over Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) after uncovering his former role as the head of the Morning Song cult. It’s been a hectic season for our beloved misfit!
Yet Wednesday’s escapades are just beginning, as the finale unveils several developments that are sure to influence Wednesday Season 3. From werewolf hunts to estranged relatives, let’s delve into it.
What’s next for Wednesday? Un-wolfing Enid.
The positive news: Wednesday successfully rescued her best friend, Enid (Emma Myers), from impending doom this season. The downside: Enid may now be permanently transformed into a wolf.
Throughout the season, Enid discovered she is an Alpha werewolf. This means she can shift forms at any moment, not just beneath a full moon. However, being an Alpha carries significant consequences. Alpha werewolves are fated to live solitary lives. Moreover, when a young Alpha transforms under a full moon, there’s a high likelihood that the change is irreversible. To make matters worse, the altered Alpha will be pursued by other werewolves. It’s the harshest of deals, and Enid takes every measure on the night of the full moon to prevent herself from transforming.
Nevertheless, when Isaac buries Wednesday alive, Enid must transform to unearth her. It’s the ultimate act of sacrifice, made even more poignant by the body swap between Enid and Wednesday in episode 6, which drew them closer together.
This is not a sacrifice Wednesday takes lightly, as she and her Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) embark on a journey to rescue a fleeing wolf-Enid. If anyone can figure out how to reverse a permanent transformation, it’s Wednesday. But there’s the minor issue of the other werewolves hunting Enid. How will Nevermore’s most contrasting roommates fare in a showdown against entire packs?
What’s going on with Isadora Capri’s Hyde pack?
On the subject of packs, let’s discuss Nevermore’s music instructor, Isadora Capri (Billie Piper). As revealed in Part 2, she is one of the rare individuals to have survived a Hyde assault: her experience came at the hands of her boyfriend, Alfie Penn.
However, in the Season 2 finale, she spins an alternate tale regarding her Hyde connection to Tyler, claiming a Hyde was her father. Now, she wishes to take Tyler to a place where Hydes can be free from masters. He agrees to her proposal and drives off into the sunset with her, but the entire situation appears suspicious.
During Wednesday and Capri’s conversation about Hydes, Capri never once stated her father was a Hyde. That seems like a significant detail to omit! Instead, she emphasized how Alfie attacked her under his jealous master’s orders, only to unintentionally kill her in the process. But could Capri have been dishonest with Wednesday about the nature of Alfie’s assault? The newspaper articles Wednesday examines regarding the attack provide compelling evidence, yet as the season has demonstrated with the faked obituaries of the LOIS subjects, such articles can be easily manipulated. Perhaps Capri was more involved in the attack than we realize. And perhaps Alfie is not truly dead, but instead a part of Capri’s Hyde Pack.
What is Hester Frump hiding about Ophelia?
Throughout Season 2, Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and her mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), have been conversing about the mysterious disappearance of Morticia’s sister, Ophelia. Like Wednesday, she was a troubled clairvoyant, and she ended up in an institution at Willow Hill before vanishing for years.
It turns out, she was right under the noses of Wednesday’s characters the entire time. Or rather, one character’s nose in particular: Hester’s.
In the final moments of the Season 2 finale, Morticia presents Wednesday with Ophelia’s journal. While reading, Wednesday receives a psychic vision of her aunt, signaling that her efforts to reconnect with her mother are aiding in restoring her outcast abilities. Thanks to this vision, Wednesday reveals that Hester is fully aware of Ophelia’s whereabouts all along. She has been confined in Hester’s basement, where she writes charming, bloody messages like “Wednesday must die” on the walls of her prison.
The revelation about Ophelia raises significant questions for Season 3.
