The Life of Chuck is a narrative about existence, affection, movement, and mortality. Based on a novella by Stephen King and brought to life by horror maestro Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, House of Usher), the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Benjamin Pajak, Annalise Basso, and Mark Hamill. Mashable Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko engaged in a discussion about a notably unsettling feature of this critically praised film with the cast.
In The Life of Chuck, the protagonist, Chuck Krantz, discovers a door in his family home that reveals a vision of death when opened, whether it be for someone he loves or himself. Confronted with such a lure, would you dare to open the door?
Flanagan confessed that he would, stating, “I wouldn’t be able to resist!” Gillan deemed it “the ultimate spoiler” and concluded, “my answer is no to that.” Ejiofor, who portrays her former spouse in the film, concurred, saying, “If there’s nothing you can do about it, then why bother?”
Benjamin Pajak, playing a young Chuck alongside his onscreen grandfather, Mark Hamill, was ambivalent, suggesting it would hinge on the context of the temptation.
Hiddleston, who embodies the adult Chuck, pondered, “The real test is not to open the door, but to coexist with what lies beyond it. The truth is that none of us are escaping unscathed.”

The Life of Chuck is currently showing in theaters nationwide.
