Woman in Los Angeles Discovers Man Concealed in Waymo Trunk

As Waymo broadens its footprint across American roads and highways, worries regarding its self-driving vehicles persist. Concerns have been raised about autonomous cars violating traffic regulations, including passing by halted school buses. A new issue surfaced in Los Angeles when a female Waymo passenger discovered a man concealed in the trunk of the car.

According to a local Fox affiliate, the woman filmed the encounter and confronted the man. “What are you doing in there?” she inquired. The man answered, “They just placed me in it.” When she pressed for more details, he replied, “The people.”

No arrests took place as no offense was technically committed, as reported by Fox11. A Waymo representative clarified that the man got into the trunk after a prior passenger left it ajar. Authorities helped remove the man after the woman notified them, and Waymo’s Rider Support team assisted her throughout the incident. The representative mentioned that procedures are established for such occurrences, and enhancements are being implemented.

“We’re dedicated to ensuring the safety of our riders and building the trust of the communities in which we function,” a Waymo representative informed Mashable. “This incident was unacceptable, and we are proactively carrying out changes to rectify this.”

Waymo is lauded for the security it provides to solo passengers, particularly women, contrasting with the numerous accounts of sexual assaults involving Uber and Lyft users. The Fox11 report also highlighted a Waymo vehicle navigating through an LAPD standoff, moving between a suspect on the ground and armed officers.
