**Yellowjackets: How the Coach’s Circumstances Deteriorate Further**

**Previously on *Yellowjackets*…**

The girls have put Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) on trial, accusing him of setting fire to the cabin at the close of last season. Was the trial reasonable? Far from it. However, once he was declared guilty, the situation for the sole adult in the wild only became more dire. Episode 5, *”Did Tai Do That?”*, culminates in a jaw-dropping and nauseating twist.

So, what implications does this hold for Coach Ben and the surviving Yellowjackets? Let’s explore the spoilers.

### Why Don’t They Execute Coach Ben?

In light of previous incidents, the girls have taken lives for far less than arson. Even though Team Mashable believes Coach Ben is not guilty, the group has decided that execution is the only way to deliver justice.

As they once utilized playing cards to select a sacrifice—opting for the Queen of Hearts—they now employ the deck to designate the executioner. The unlucky draw? The King of Hearts, also known as the Suicide King, falls to Tai.

While practicing her aim, Tai admits to Van that she’s uncertain if she can go through with it. This connects to the episode’s title, a nod to Steve Urkel’s iconic catchphrase from *Family Matters*: *”Did I do that?”* Van recommends that Tai allow her “other self” to take control, akin to Urkel’s smooth alter ego. The tactic proves effective—on execution day, Tai’s demeanor becomes icy as she gets ready to pull the trigger.

Just as she’s on the verge of firing, Travis and Lottie step in. Akilah has experienced a vision: Ben is their “bridge” to returning home. Thus, he must be spared.

Sadly for Ben, this doesn’t equate to freedom. Instead, he finds himself confined in the animal enclosure, treated even worse than the rabbits.

### Why Does Melissa Cut Coach Ben?

Despite being the team’s leader, Nat couldn’t halt the execution attempt. She feels relieved when Akilah’s vision spares Ben, but Shauna remains unsatisfied. At Shauna’s command, her new ally Melissa approaches the restrained coach, wielding Shauna’s hunting knife to his remaining ankle.

Peer pressure is frightening in *Yellowjackets*, and this episode emphasizes that.

Ben shrieks in pain, while Shauna and Melissa beam with excitement. “He won’t be going anywhere,” Shauna boasts confidently.

Nat, appalled, retorts: “You don’t have to take pleasure in it this much.”

Melissa’s assault isn’t solely to stop Ben from escaping—it’s also tactical. She targets his Achilles tendon, an injury that would incapacitate anyone with two legs, let alone a man who has already lost one. Misty amputated Ben’s leg in Season 1 to save him, but with both legs now compromised, escape becomes impossible.

Following the incident, Shauna and Melissa strengthen their bond by clasping their bloodied hands together as they enter Shauna’s hut.
