YouTube TV Provides Users with $20 Compensation Due to Disney Blackout

YouTube TV subscribers are set to gain a $20 credit due to the ongoing blackout of Disney networks, including ESPN and ABC, if a new pricing agreement isn’t finalized by today (Nov. 9). The service is favored by fans of live sports.

The On-Demand streaming platform has been missing these channels since Oct. 30, after the failure to renew the agreement between Disney and Google, YouTube’s parent company. Over the past year, Disney has been pursuing increased fees and new pricing structures with different distributors.

Users have voiced their dissatisfaction, with numerous customers threatening to cancel and transition to competitors such as Hulu + Live TV, which is owned by Disney, if a resolution isn’t achieved soon. YouTube has assured a discount if the situation continues. As of Saturday, talks are ongoing, with YouTube TV alleging that Disney is engaging in bad faith negotiations.

“We understand that subscribers are unhappy with the interruption, and we persist in urging Disney to collaborate with us in good faith to arrive at a fair deal that reinstates their networks on YouTube TV at the earliest opportunity,” stated YouTube.

How to obtain your $20 credit for YouTube TV

Getting the $20 credit for YouTube TV will be straightforward for subscribers, amounting to roughly a quarter of the standard monthly fee. YouTube will send out email guidelines on how to apply the credit to the upcoming billing cycle, with all credits guaranteed by Wednesday (Nov. 12). If a deal is negotiated, service will be restored within hours.
