Introducing your resource for Pips, the latest addition to the New York Times gaming lineup.

Unveiled in August 2025, Pips provides a novel approach to dominoes, offering an engaging solo gameplay experience that may quickly become your everyday favorite.

At present, if you find yourself at a standstill, the game permits you to unveil the whole puzzle, encouraging you to progress to the next difficulty and restart. But fear not, we have your back! Below are detailed solutions that will lead you through every level of difficulty.

How to engage with Pips

If you have experience with dominoes, you’ll grasp the essentials of how Pips operates. As noted in our earlier hints for Pips, the tiles, much like dominoes, can be positioned either vertically or horizontally and interconnect with one another. The primary distinction between classic dominoes and Pips lies in the color-coded requirements you must meet. The adjoining tiles do not always need to correspond.

The requirements you have to fulfill are tied to the color-coded areas. For example, if a single number is indicated, the total of every side of a tile in that area must equal the specified number. It’s feasible – and often the case – for only a portion of a tile to reside within a color-coded area.

Below are typical instances you will meet across the various difficulty levels:

  • Number: All pips in this area must total the specified number.

  • Equal: Each domino half in this area must contain the same number of pips.

  • Not Equal: Each domino half in this area must feature a different number of pips.

  • Less than: Each domino half in this area must amount to less than the specified number.

  • Greater than: Each domino half in this area must amount to more than the specified number.

If an area does not have color coding, it means there are no restrictions on the domino segments within those spaces.
