James Gunn’s revival of the DC Universe is picking up speed. Following the box office success of Superman, the refreshed superhero franchise is welcoming Supergirl, an energetic spinoff echoing Guardians of the Galaxy, as showcased in its initial trailer.
With Blondie’s “Call Me” accompanying clips of Supergirl celebrating with her delightful superpup, Krypto, alongside a blend of cosmic hijinks, rock music, and breathtaking action, excitement is building to see House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock return as Kara, Superman’s wonderfully unpredictable cousin.
Drawing inspiration from the comic mini-series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, the film depicts Kara on a festive adventure that culminates in a mission to help an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley) seek justice.
Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) with a script by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl stars Alcock and Ridley alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, who is not playing Aquaman in this film. Almost a year ago, Momoa disclosed on Instagram that he was cast as Lobo, a powerful anti-hero and galactic bounty hunter.
