Apple’s AirTag Might Soon Include Improved Location Tracking

Apple’s AirTag tracking gadget is fairly simple to find when stationary, but it may soon be more straightforward to monitor while in motion. Macworld has analyzed a leaked iteration of internal iOS 26 code and uncovered multiple mentions of a revised version of the AirTag.

The majority of the enhancements concentrate on AirTag’s core feature: the owner’s capability to precisely identify its location.

A new capability reportedly termed Enhanced Moving implies that tracking an AirTag while it’s in motion may become simpler. Another unnamed functionality could improve tracking in densely populated locations.

The leaked code also suggests advancements to Precision Finding, which enables users to accurately determine an AirTag’s whereabouts when in close proximity.

Additional upgrades comprise enhanced pairing and comprehensive battery level reporting.

It remains unclear whether these enhancements will be accessible for current AirTags via a software update (likely in the first half of the upcoming year) or if they pertain to a completely new iteration of AirTag. A new AirTag with a revamped ultra-wideband chip has been speculated for quite a while, making the latter scenario seem probable.
