Walmart Expands Drone Delivery to Numerous Extra Locations

Walmart is broadening its on-demand drone delivery service to an additional 150 stores across the country through a major collaboration with Wing. Owned by Alphabet, Google’s parent company, Wing initially partnered with Walmart in 2023 and has since rapidly expanded its services to more retail outlets nationwide. With the latest additions, Wing will be running autonomous delivery drones in 270 locations, catering to approximately 10% of the U.S. population, or about 40 million Americans, as stated by TechCrunch. The firm characterizes it as the “largest residential drone delivery service.”

Utilizing infrastructure in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta regions, drone delivery options will be gradually introduced throughout 2026 and into 2027, targeting major urban centers such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami.

In June, Walmart broadened its drone delivery service to five cities—Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa—and over 100 store locations, becoming the first significant retailer to roll out drone delivery across five states and numerous locations. Walmart reports having completed over 150,000 successful drone deliveries since its inception.

“Whether it’s a last-minute ingredient for dinner, an essential phone charger, or a late-night necessity for a busy family, the significant adoption we’ve observed validates that this is the future of convenience,” stated Greg Cathey, senior vice president of digital fulfillment transformation at Walmart, in a press release.
