Everybody has at least one unfortunate breakup they’d rather not remember. For Olivia Rodrigo’s character on Saturday night, that breakup was prominently showcased.

The sketch features Rodrigo at a gathering, freshly encountering an ex she’s set on making envious. Her strategy is to enlist the perfectly pleasant, entirely willing guy standing beside her, portrayed by Tommy Brennan. A solid approach, all things considered.

Her ex, portrayed by Ben Marshall, has exactly the same plan. Regrettably, the woman he enlisted for his scheme is being played by Ashley Padilla. Thus, while Rodrigo and her laid-back pretend date enjoy a truly delightful time, the ex’s evening spirals into something resembling a minor psychological crisis. Padilla has a unique talent for portraying characters who operate just slightly outside the confines of normal human behavior, and this sketch serves as a showcase for just that.
