Report: Apple to Solely Enhance Gemini for Siri Implementation

Apple, the foremost smartphone producer, will retain substantial oversight over its Siri enhancement driven by Apple Intelligence, even with a significant agreement with Google, as cited by the Information. Insiders, who requested anonymity, disclosed that Apple retains the authority to adjust the model independently from Google and will not incorporate any Google or Gemini branding for the time being. Google’s LLM will act as a base for Apple’s tailored needs, rather than a comprehensive answer.

The Gemini-enhanced Siri will improve its overall processing abilities, providing better general knowledge and emotional support in a conversational style, akin to other AI assistants. With the support of Gemini, Siri will be able to better understand ambiguous requests, such as discerning contact names from messages, and create content like writing Notes using information sourced from the internet.

Earlier this week, Apple revealed its choice to utilize Google’s Gemini AI models for its revamped Siri, after speculations about potential partners, including OpenAI. While Apple will continue to direct complex inquiries through ChatGPT, minimal traffic has been sent to ChatGPT from Siri trials, according to the Information.

The collaboration guarantees that Siri’s new features will not be hosted on Google servers but will function directly on Apple devices or the company’s Cloud server, ensuring no data exchange. Insiders indicated that Google made significant investments in developing a model version compatible with Apple servers to maintain Apple’s commitments to on-device privacy.
