Following a substantial overhaul at Microsoft’s gaming sector, the recent head of Xbox made a noteworthy announcement on Thursday.
Asha Sharma, the newly appointed CEO of Microsoft Gaming, disclosed the next-gen Xbox gaming console in an X post. Sharma confirmed that the console carries the codename Project Helix.
“Fantastic start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we discussed our dedication to the revival of Xbox, including Project Helix, the codename for our upcoming console,” Sharma shared alongside an image displaying the text “Project Helix” on a dark background.
Project Helix will mark the fifth generation of Xbox.
Although she did not reveal extensive specifics, Sharma mentioned an essential feature for the next-gen console: gamers will have the capability to enjoy both Xbox and PC games on Project Helix. This validates some enduring speculations regarding the console.
“Project Helix will excel in performance and enable you to play your Xbox and PC games,” she stated. “Eager to discuss this further with partners and studios at my inaugural GDC next week!”
When Mashable interviewed the then-Xbox President Sarah Bond last year, Bond suggested that the forthcoming Xbox console would resemble a high-end gaming PC more than a conventional gaming console. Bond also underscored the significance of cross-platform games to the Xbox identity.
Since Bond’s unexpected exit, speculation has swirled regarding what lies ahead for Xbox.
While much about Project Helix remains uncertain, Sharma’s public affirmation of its existence is remarkable news for gamers.
