Instagram has rolled out a new feature known as Instants, which enables users to share unedited photo collections with friends that disappear once viewed. The Meta-owned platform announced that Instants allows you to send a selection of photos to Close Friends or mutual followers without any edits, although captions may be included. Instants will disappear after 24 hours or as soon as they are viewed, akin to Instagram’s disappearing messages and similar features on Snapchat, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp. An undo button is available to retract a given photo.
Instants will show up in your DMs as a collection of photos. Recipients have the option to react with emojis, reply, or send their own Instants. Taking screenshots is prohibited, and Instants are stored in a personal folder for reposting to Stories. However, recipients retain the ability to record the screen or utilize another device to capture the image. Instagram oversees content shared with Close Friends, and all submissions must comply with Instagram’s nudity policies. End-to-end encryption has been disabled for DMs, leaving Instants under standard encryption. Mashable has reached out to Instagram for a response.
