Weeks after Mel Robbins faced backlash for suggesting women upload their bank statements to AI in a Microsoft Copilot advertisement, OpenAI revealed a “personal finance experience” within ChatGPT.
The company is providing a preview for Pro users in the U.S., enabling them to link their financial accounts via Plaid. Once connected, ChatGPT can assess financial data and user priorities to detect trends and aid in future financial planning, as stated in OpenAI’s blog post announcing the service.
Users will have a dashboard that showcases their portfolio, expenses, and upcoming payments. OpenAI recommends utilizing it for setting financial goals, analyzing travel expenses, evaluating investment risks, and reviewing subscriptions.
Pro users in the U.S. can connect their accounts today through the web or iOS, with support from various financial institutions. Screenshots include examples such as American Express, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Robinhood.
Integration with Intuit, which manages TurboTax, Credit Karma, and QuickBooks, is anticipated soon, according to OpenAI.
OpenAI reports that 200 million individuals use ChatGPT each month for budgeting, investment inquiries, and financial planning.
In this financial mode, ChatGPT is unable to access complete account numbers but can interpret bank balances, transactions, and liabilities. Users can unlink accounts at any time, erase financial memories, or engage in temporary chats that won’t be recorded in history.
