ChatGPT Launches Starbucks Application Offering AI-Powered Beverage Recommendations Based on Mood

Starbucks is venturing into AI by launching a beta application within ChatGPT this week, enabling a chatbot to choose your latte or refresher. Users can engage with the app on ChatGPT by initiating a prompt with “@Starbucks.” They can articulate their current or desired emotion — such as lively or snug — or request the AI to propose options based on their tastes, like non-dairy or low-caffeine beverages.

As stated in a release on Starbucks’ website, users may also upload an image to ChatGPT that “reflects your vibe,” and the AI will recommend a drink that aligns with it.

Starbucks proposes prompts such as “@Starbucks, I’m looking for something vibrant to kick off my morning,” and “@Starbucks, I need an afternoon pick-me-up that isn’t overly sweet.” Once a drink and location for pickup are chosen, users will be led to the Starbucks app or Starbucks.com to finalize the payment and place the order.

Starbucks perceives the beta app in ChatGPT as a novel approach to inspire customers to try various drinks, asserting in their press announcement that it’s “utilizing AI to facilitate something inherently human: helping you find a drink you’ll adore.”
