DJI Introduces Osmo Pocket 4 with Enhancements, Yet There’s a Major Drawback

DJI has launched the Osmo Pocket 4, the newest iteration of its widely-used handheld gimbal camera. Regrettably, it may take a while before it is available in the U.S.

Since its debut in 2023, DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 has become a favorite among content producers across the globe. The recently unveiled Osmo Pocket 4 brings several upgrades to the well-known 4K vlogging camera, featuring dedicated zoom and customizable buttons that can be accessed when the 2-inch touchscreen is rotated into landscape orientation.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 camera is equipped with a 1-inch CMOS sensor boasting 14 stops of dynamic range, enhancing performance in low-light situations. It can record at a maximum resolution of 16:9 4K at 60fps and capture 4K slow-motion video at 240fps, a frame rate that the Pocket 3 only offers at 1080p.

DJI asserts that the Pocket 4 can function for four hours at the lowest resolution of 1080p 24fps, surpassing the Pocket 3, and it comes with 107GB of internal storage. This is likely good news for those worried about the increasing prices of memory cards, as the Pocket 3 is completely dependent on SD cards.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 camera has not yet received approval for distribution in the U.S. While other locations will obtain the Osmo Pocket 4 shortly, the U.S. government’s attitude toward DJI continues to impede its operations in the country.

A DJI representative revealed to Mashable that they have sought FCC clearance to launch the Osmo Pocket 4 in the U.S., but the request is still under review. Due to the FCC’s stringent stance on foreign drone enterprises, U.S. content creators will have to remain patient.

In Australia, pre-orders for the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 are currently available, with deliveries scheduled to commence on April 22. The Standard Combo package is offered at $AU769 (around $551) and includes a handle, carrying pouch, gimbal clamp, and wrist strap. The $AU959 (roughly $687) Creator Combo includes everything in the Standard Combo plus a wide-angle lens, fill light, mini tripod, carrying bag, and a DJI Mic 3 transmitter with accessories.
