Apple CarPlay users now have an additional AI assistant choice: Grok. On Friday, SpaceXAI, a subdivision of SpaceX dedicated to artificial intelligence, revealed that Grok’s voice mode is now accessible in Apple CarPlay. Previously, Grok existed in CarPlay as a placeholder application displaying a “coming soon” message. Now, users can tap the Grok icon to initiate a new voice chat and engage with the assistant.
Grok comes after ChatGPT, which became accessible in CarPlay in April 2026. Apple first introduced support for AI chatbots in CarPlay in February. Similar to other AI chatbots in CarPlay, Grok cannot be triggered by voice command; users must launch the app manually to start the interaction. Moreover, Grok cannot carry out commands on the iPhone or within the car, but users are able to pose questions to it.
Certain Tesla drivers can activate Grok using a “Hey Grok” voice command, a capability included in the company’s most recent “spring update,” though its availability differs by region.
